Jeanie Marie Buss has been an American entrepreneur for over 20 years. She is the owner of control of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association and currently serves as its president. A California native, Buss has been raised by an extremely wealthy family. Their father Jerry Buss was a real-estate tycoon, who was later the proprietor of the Lakers and other businesses related to sports. The couple divorced in 1972 which made her feel emotionally abandoned. She joined her family's business when she was 19 as general manager for the Los Angeles Strings tennis team. She later set up an organization called the Los Angeles Blades professional roller hockey team. Before becoming vice president for the Lakers in 2013, she was president of the Great Western Forum. Buss, her five brothers and sisters and their father, who owned the Lakers and ruled them up to his death in 2013, inherited this ownership by way of a trust. Each of them enjoyed the same voting rights. Buss was elected president of the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss is also part-owner of Women of Wrestling (a Los Angeles-based pro-wrestling association).
